Letter from Conference Lay Leader about the Laity Convocation

May grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus, the Messiah be yours!  Galatians 1:3 ISV
In this season of Advent, I pray that you will pause and reflect on the Hope, Love, Joy and Peace that this season brings as we anticipate the celebration of the Christ Child.
 My Sisters, Brothers, and friends,
Thank you and congratulations for helping to make our 2016 Laity Convocation "We Are Called ..." a success!  Truly the spirit of the Lord filled the Garden Pavilion from beginning to end.  In a powerful sermon by The Rev. David Gilmore gave instructions on, ‘How to find your dot  . . .” or “How to fill in the dot?”  He also coordinated the nine workshops: Community, Open, Mercy, Mutuality, Unconventional, Narrative, Invitational, Trustworthy and Yearning inspired by the book, Transforming Community by Henry H. Knight III and F. Douglas Powe, Jr.  Following individual workshop discussions, all groups assembled for a summary, sharing, and highlights led by Rev. Gilmore.
With uplifting music in the air to bring the convocation to order, led by Daniel Pettit, Director of Music for the day; “We Are Called” was the theme song that drew attention to some activity.  William Flipse offered accompaniment from his electric guitar and lifted his voice with voices of the Laity Convocation Ensemble in singing “Order My Steps.”  Charlie Powell of the Shepherd Singers rendered two solos: “You Raise Me Up” and “Let Your Glory Fill this Place.”  All voices brought great joy to activities of the day.
Bishop Thomas Bickerton brought greetings and offered words of encouragement and empowerment to the Laity.  In his Communion Meditation, “Where Are We?’ he challenged us to do three things: 1) Care for others deeply . . . not grow callous and hard.
2) Be converted as often as you convert.
3) Imitate Christ, strive for pure thoughts.
We extend heartfelt thanks to The Rev. Elizabeth Ott, NY/CT; Rev. Kenneth Kieffer, CT; Sheila Peiffer, Board of Church and Society; Michael Pollard, Chief of Staff, Mayor David Martin’s Office; Rev. Matt Curry, Dir. Connectional Ministries; Board of Laity; Carol Merante and Lynda Gomi, Connectional Ministries; Workshop Facilitators; Communion Servers; Hosts/Greeters; and registration table volunteers.
Advance Credit for Laity Convocation:  Please remember to follow up with our Director of Lay Servant Ministry, Mary Brevigleri, to complete the requirements to receive the 10 credits.
Finally, please take a few moments to share your thoughts and feelings about the 2016 Laity Convocation using the link to the online evaluation form.  Responses are anonymous.
